New Delhi: The Indian cricket team has all the records to be named, whether in the Tests, ODIs or T20I. But there is still a gray area in the other Indian team record. With the T20I series between India vs New Zealand starting on Wednesday, the fans will be amazed to know that India has never beaten the New Zealand side in the shortest format of the game, in the five appearances between the two sides. After winning the ODI series, the Indian team would slow down to change their record. Here’s a look at each of the five T20 games, India has lost the Black Caps.
5. India vs New Zealand, World T20 in Nagpur, 2016
Once again, he won New Zealand the first time and was first elected to bats. He was a good bowling dancing by the Indians as they restrained their opponents for 126. All shovels whipped with a dress, and India looked to register their first win against the Kiwis, in T20. But the fall of batting saw the Indians bundled out for paltry 79 running. The backbone of the Indian bats broke Mitchell Santner by claiming four wickets, giving only 11 runs away.
4. New Zealand Tour of India in Chennai, 2012
After testing India’s nemesis in the shortest format of the game, New Zealand has once again experienced their qualifications. This time, a target of 168 India ranges was set. Brendon McCullum once again brought the goods for his team. It was sweeping 91 fantastic runs of 55 balls. Towards the end of Kiwi attacks, Jacob Oram came down and dropped 18 runs from just 9 balls. India also, for a large part of the game, looked good to take the target down as Virat Kohli scored 70 runs. But after his departure, the rest of the bats could not take India at home as they lost by 1 run.
3. India Tour of New Zealand in Wellington, 2009
In this game, as the first game of the series, Brendon McCullum was the star. He scored 69 fast fire runs of only 55 bits to start the series. He was well supported by Jesse Ryder and Ross Taylor, to track the 150-run target. This was a close match, as the Kiwis reached the target on the final ball of the game. India had some decent performances in the bowling section, as Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan were trying to run brakes at the running rate. One wicket raised apiece.
2. India Tour of New Zealand in Christchurch, 2009
The touring Indian team had a great trip to New Zealand but lost the T20 2-0 series. In the first game in Christchurch, they got India bats by the Kiwi skipper. India scored only 162 runs. That did not go enough with those like Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill in the New Zealand team. The first one scored fifty to take his team home, with a surplus. Jacob Oram played the finest 29-year-old life, of only 15 balls.
1. India vs New Zealand, ICC World Twenty20 in Johannesburg, 2007
This was a memorable cup for the India Team, as they were crowned world champions in the first edition of WT20. After hitting all their opponents on the road title, India was taken to Kiwi’s side. After setting a target of 191, India could not control 180 runs in their quoted quota of 20 layers. Gautam Gambhir (51) and Virender Sehwag (40) started the campaign very well, but Daniel Vettori made the great bowling down. The left arm scored 4 wickets for only 20 runs, which put brakes at the scoring rate.
