There are other players in IPL who will be noticed differently from others including Natarajan, B Thampi, and M Ashwin. The franchise has selected and picked up by their teams. Let’s have a look at strength and weakness of all eight IPL squads.
Kings XI Punjab
Kings XI Punjab was the most well-performed team over the last IPL match, who comes up at the end of the finals. Although not spend too much in this IPL season of 2017, spend a total of 52.1 crores still they are lucky to get in the team with good white ball player Eoin Morgan, Martin Guptill, and Darren Sammy.
Strength: They build the strongest team in this season with decent all rounders Marcus Stoinis. They also include Orange Cap holder in 2008 Shaun Marsh as batting option. David Miller, Eoin Morgan, and Glenn Maxwell are another players getting a game on the positive side. They also include T20 World Cup winning captain of the West Indies – Darren Sammy.
Weakness: They lack the bowling department with spinners except Axar Patel the only good spinner in their squad.
Prediction: This year also they could struggle for pay-offs.
Rising Pune Supergiants
In the auction, 2017 Rising Pune Supergiants had already made headlines in media about the highest price player Ben Stokes with INR of 14.5 cores. The captaincy of Steve Smith was also another surprise for everyone. The picking up of excellent players with more bidding money make them the more expensive franchise of Rs 65.7 core in 2017. Although to complete the gap of seamers they included T Natarajan, Nathu Singh, and Basil Thampi.
Strengths: The team has the settled player in this IPL as compare to last year. Supergiants have come up with six strong top order. The team was unlucky last year their top order players injuries. They also bought up with the fast spinner in the team including Ashwin and Adam Zampa.
Weakness: This time the team of RPS, lack the seam bowlers. They come up with Indian bowlers Ashok Dinda and Ishwar Pandey to the first choice. For playing strong they must go with all-rounders Ben Stokes and Daniel Christian for an opening. They remain empty handed when looking over backup batsmen whether it could be India or overseas.
Prediction: They could be strong as compare to last, still the payoff remains tough.
Delhi Daredevils are the unsuccessful team from the last couple of seasons. In 9 years of IPL matches held, they have only come up 3 times at last four stages of the match. They qualified for CL T20 twice in 2009 and 2012. In this IPL season, they bought up strong player Ben Stokes and few overseas players including Corey Anderson and Angelo Matthews.
Strengths: This time Delhi Daredevils has brought up with fine batman including Indian domestic players Shreyas Iyer, Rishab Pant, Karun Nair, and Sanju Samson. They have too not missed out with the foreign player with an entry of impressive batsman, Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy and Sam Billings. They also have the stronger lower order power hitter in their team
Weakness: The bowling part of Daredevils remains the weak point only having the benefit of Shami. To stay in good form in the match they have to depend on their spinner department Amit Mishra, Jayant Yadav, and Shahbaz Nadeem to deliver the goods. Adding to it they have players from South Africa who will not available throughout the match. Therefore they need to put extra efforts to reach the finals.
Prediction: They can reach the pay-off from the handful of players including Rahul Dravid.
Mumbai Indians proved to be the most successful team in winning two times in IPL and CL T20. It was surprising for everyone when they are unable to make last four in IPL 2016 auction.
In the 2017 auction, they have taken good move buying players Asela Gunaratne, and Mitchell Johnson but have spent more for other players including Ben Stokes, Trent Boult, Tymal Mills and Rashid Khan.
Strengths: They have the good part of buying pace bowlers including Mitchell Johnson, Lasith Malinga, and Jasprith Bumrah. On the other hand, they have spinners too who will add varieties in bowling order. Harbhajan Singh, Karn Sharma, and Kunal Pandya can be good overtaking quick wickets.
Weakness: They have low middle order batsman including Rohit Sharma, who come up with the injury. The batting order needs support from Ambati Rayudu and Parthiv Patel. The top order needs to bat well for setting up the good score if they fail the match will be not in their favor with the weak middle order.
Prediction: They have to make it for the last 4.
The Gujrat Loins has surprised everyone in the last IPL finishing at the top of the table. However, this year selection of the squad team is the bit confusing. At the bowling department, they needed overseas fast bowler as a backup but they picked none except Andrew Tye. The other drawback would be the replacement of leg-spinner Pravin Tambe, who can add variety to the play but Gujarat Lions end up with picking less experienced spinner Tejas Baroka.
Strengths: The Strenght remains in hands of top order batsman including Jason Roy, Brendon McCullum, Dwyane Smith and Aaron Finch, although only two from the four has come up in the final XI. Ishant Sharma and Suresh Raina batting at middle order will add some spice to the play.
Weakness: The week middle order play and the gap of good spinners are the concerned part of Gujarat Lions. For a good play, the top orders batsmen have to take the load and play well if they get out the team needs to struggle to win the matches.
Prediction: The game is tough in IPL 2017 for Gujarat Lions.
Kolkata Knight Riders
The Kolkata Knight Riders are always in the quick move to buy good players in every auction. This time also they have not spend unreasonable high amount for picking up the players. KKR made a perfect buy including Chris Woakes in the team as the replacement of Andre Russell. They have also come up with Nathan Coulter-Nile in place of Woakes when he would be playing for national duties. KKR also able to get the handful of home players including In shank Jaggi and Rishi Dhawan to add strength to the team.
Strenght: KKR team in this season line-up with good bowling departments as earlier in IPL 2016. They have the power of pace bowlers for and with the entry of Trent Boult, they have much more from the overseas player who is available throughout the match. On the batting side to they have the strongest batting openers followed with solid middle order batsmen.
Weakness: In this IPL season they are missing with the batting power of Andre Russell. Therefore whole duties of good batting and scoring run come under the shoulders of Yusuf Pathan and Woakes. How they play in the match well be the interesting part to see.
Prediction: If everything goes fine, the can come up to playoffs.
The Sunrise Hyderabad last year IPL 2016 champions has the line up with pace bowlers. They have shown interesting pickups including two Afghanistan players Rashid Khan (18 years old) and Mohammad Nabi at the base price of 30 lakhs. They also included spinners to grab few big wickets to their end.
Strength: They have set up with some strong bowling lineup. Winning of IPL 2016 last year they have much confidence to play in ground. They also have the quality of handful spinners including Pravin Tambi, Rashid Khan, and Mohammad Nabi adding to it the death over bowler Chris Jordan. The team also includes all-rounder semesters Moises Henriques, Ben Cutting and Ben Laughlin.
Weakness: Although having the good handful of bowlers their batting line-ups is a weak point. The players including David Warner Shikhar Dhawan Kane Willamson and Yuvraj Sing will score well with top heavy. The middle and lower batting order comes up with local talents and will not be strong.
Prediction: They can get the place in Playoff.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
In IPL 2017 Virat Kohli the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore will go to break dubious records by batting hard. The RCB having Pawan Negi as the most powerful spinner with outstanding performance in IPL 2016 will have good handover bowling this year too. The RCB franchise has taken good decision in picking up Pawan Negi the all-rounder spinner with the price of 1 crore.
Strength: The batting line-up is powerful under the captaincy of Virat Kholi, where the captain plays well with his bat hitting hard out of boundaries. Another man Chris Gayle known for most played destructive T20 matches company with AB de Villiers hitting covering all parts of the ground. The team also carried out with players KL Rahul, Shane Watson and Kedar Jadhav who can make the hard for opponent bowlers.
Weakness: The missing of Mitchel Starc’s could be a great loss for RCB yet it being filled by Tymal Mills who has shown his impressive perfromance in T20. It would be new to see him batting well in ground of Chinnaswamy Stadium. Selected the best playersRCB has also bought up with uncapped Indian left-arm seamer, Aniket Chaudhary and it will be interesting to seen if he is able to bowl for high profile international batsmen.
Prediction: Strong batting abilty. Still to work for Pay-offs.
