Virender Sehwag ‘happy’ with removal of Dhoni Captaincy
It was suprise for all when Rising Pune Supergiants replaced Dhoni captaincy with Steve Simth in 2017 IPL ahead of the auction. But Sehwag the teammate of Dhoni was happy with the decision of Rising Pune Supergiants and given interesting reason behind it.
He said at SporTale “I am happy that he (Dhoni) isn’t captain because maybe now my team, Kings XI Punjab, can beat his Pune team.”. Sehwag who always appriciate the captaincy of Dhoni, this time he doesn’t want to say about the internal disscusion of Raising Pune Supergainsts about Dhoni captaincy. Sehwag the IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab’s head of cricket operations also added that don’t take his statement in wrong way.
It was the day before IPL auction 2017 when RPS has removed Dhoni from captaincy with Steve Smith as its new skipper. Dhoni step down with captaincy to limited over format and play only wicketkeeper-batsman. Earlier Dhoni was leading captaincy for Chennai Super Kings and then after in 2016 he joined new franchise team Rising Pune Supergiants.
With the new decision of RPS Dhoni innings has been ended both for international and franchise cricket. The owner of RPS Goenka clearly state the reason for removing Dhoni from captaincy. He said they did not played good in last season, this time they are looking for young player to lead and win the match. He also state that the team has only win 5 matches outoff 14 in IPL 9 under the captaincy of Dhoni, this was the worst performance as a captain in 9 years. But still now Chennai Super Kings consider Dhoni as successful captain for his IPL team.
Sanjiv Goenka said: “Dhoni has not stepped down. We have appointed Steve Smith as the skipper for the upcoming season. Frankly speaking, we did not have a good last season and we wanted someone young to lead the side and revamp it ahead of the upcoming season 10.” he also added “I have the highest regard for MS Dhoni as a leader and a person. Dhoni continues to be an integral member of our team. He is supportive of the decision keeping the franchise’s best interests in mind.”
