Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Not an ‘IPL to IPL’ player Irfan Pathan Stining Reply
Irfan Pathan who finished with great figures by T20 standers would sound a tad miffed at the questions well understand. The 32 years old completed it with 3/10 to guide west Zone to a convincing war. But when Irfan asked about the reputation of being IPL he shot back with a riposte with no efforts to hide hid annoyance. He said “It’s definitely unfair. If you look at the recent past, it’s happened only once four years ago, when I genuinely missed out on a domestic season due to injuries. (Now) I have played everything and have bowled a lot of overs as well. If they club me along with IPL to IPL players, it’s unfortunate and they should be careful”
Next, in the 2015-2016 season he improved his performance and played for eight Ranji Games four in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and ten Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches. In this season he is contributed for six Ranji Trophy and four Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches.
Instead of great performance still he is not in the race, the reason perhaps is the fact that he does not get much mileage playing for the low profile Borada in the domestic cricket. Borada has not really even appeared in too many television matches.
Though the Indian team selectors are providing second chances to yester year heroes to make a comeback. They should not forget that Irfan belonging to the same category who was man-of-the-match in the first of the 2007 world T20.
Brief scores: North Zone 107/8 (Gautam Gambhir 60; Irfan Pathan 3/10) lost to West Zone 108/3 (Parthiv Patel 56, Shreyas Iyer 30); Central Zone 151/7 (Naman Ojha 51, Harpreet Bhatia 48; Ashoke Dinda 2/24) lost to East Zone (Ishan Kishan 67, Ishank Jaggi 51; Mahipal Lomror 2/31).
In just two overs Pathan had taken care of three of the four major North Zone batsman. In the second over Irfan delivered a good length delivery that stumps to have Dhawan edging to first slip. In the next over with the short pitched delivery makes the batsman Rishab Pant and Yuvraj end up by giving Deepak Hooda a stright forward catch at covers.
