Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) a fairytale-like journey always managed to produce sheer entertainment and a brand of cricket than the rest. The batting line-up captain Virat Kohli with Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Shane Watson and KL Rahul. Although with powerful battings stars that are yet to put their hands on the ultimate prize.
With smashing records and bashing teams played very well in IPL 2016, But unfortunately, not-so-happy ending by losing in the final at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the previous edition.
The Kohli-led side will be hungry to taste success this time around. However, after donning the Indian jersey in all three formats, captain Kohli will be eyeing to fulfill his and Bengaluru’s wish to bring the trophy home.
Kohli did the bulk of the work to take RCB to the top of all teams. Kohli hunger is to taste the success of IPL 2017. This time Kholi will be eyeing to fulfill Bengaluru’s wish to bring the IPL trophy home.
The mistakes they did in these crunch games led them down. RCB failed to capitalize and finished as runner-up by losing focus unexpectedly. One of the reason could the Shane Watson and compatriot Mitchell Marsh was trouble with injuries. For people who follow the team closely, they know the team needs to look for quality bowlers to match up to their enviable batting order. RCB need minimal changes to actually bolster their squad. 20 players are retained by RBC and also released 10 including Varun Aaron, David Wiese, and Kane Richardson. With the good options of overseas players and second lowest purse (12.8 crores), they can only pick one out of the seven at the auction.
RCB is known for their explosive batting power, they need to work on bowling unit. To be all-rounder RCB needs to keeping Shane Watson’s injury woes in mind. Although Shane Watson plays well both batting and bowling, Irfan Pathan is a suitable solution for the replacement of Shane Watson. Pathan can offer much more to the home team with good experiences that he shown at Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. Chris Woakes, Corey Anderson, and Tymal Mills are the other options available for grabs, given they utilize them.
To add fuel to bowling zone Mitchell Starc and Adam Milne are the only pacers left on the side. High-flying Ishant Sharma is worth the good choice to his play and another choice could be Basil Thampi, Rishi Dhawan, Munaf Patel or Jaydev Unadkat are the options with low price. Interestingly, Englands’ Ben Stokes is blessed with both bat and bowl which can arguably make the side more than complete.
The spinner includes Yuzvendra Chahal, Samuel Badree, and Iqbal Abdulla but has failed to remain consistent. But Chahal is an exception as he was in good form and was the pick of the bowler for RCB last year – taking 21 wickets in 13 games. He is also admired by Kohli and had featured in the recently-concluded series against England. On another side Imran Tahir and Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi are also the good choices, RCB must not hesitate to rope in spin bowlers. Tahir knows how to play and understands exactly what is required in a league like IPL.
